Megève, 4 km from Combloux: the village, the ski area, what to do
Megève is 4 km from Combloux along the D1212 — from the building, 6.6 km and 13 minutes to the church square — and reachable on skis via Le Jaillet, whose slopes link up with those of Combloux. Staying in Combloux puts Megève within easy reach — its slopes, its Palais, its restaurants, its events — without paying Megève rents or parking fees. → Where to stay for skiing in Megève

The village
1,113 m above sea level, 2,900 inhabitants. In 1921, Baroness Noémie de Rothschild opened the Mont d'Arbois estate there: Megève became the first ski resort built from scratch in the French Alps, conceived as an answer to St Moritz. The Rochebrune cable car, in 1933, was the first in France designed for skiers. The centre has remained a Savoyard market town: the church square, the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste, the cobbled pedestrian streets, the horse-drawn carriages leaving from the square (€38 for a 15-minute tour of the village, €90 an hour, 2024 prices), the designer boutiques, the casino and the Panoramic cinema. The market is on Friday mornings, all year round.
Le Calvaire
Above the village, a Way of the Cross of fifteen chapels and oratories with some fifty painted wooden statues, laid out between 1840 and 1878 by the parish priest Ambroise Martin, listed as a historic monument and restored in 2007. A 1.6 km loop, one hour, 155 m of climbing, free, starting between the Casino car park and the Vieux Megève restaurant; pushchair-accessible via the Chemin Saint-Michel. The loveliest walk in Megève, and one of the least known.
The ski area
Three mountains. Le Jaillet, on the Combloux side, linked to the Combloux slopes, quiet and sunny, with the 4S toboggan; it is included in the Portes du Mont-Blanc lift pass. Rochebrune, reached from the centre by the historic cable car, with L'Alpette and the Côte 2000, the resort's technical run (moguls European Cup in January 2026). Mont d'Arbois, the largest, linked to Saint-Gervais and Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce via Mont Joux and L'Épaule; you go up from the village or from La Princesse at Demi-Quartier — an 8-seat gondola and a free 900-space car park, 7 minutes from the building: the simplest way into the Évasion ski area from Combloux. Rochebrune and Mont d'Arbois are on the Évasion Mont-Blanc lift pass (see → Skiing in Combloux). 2026-27 opening: partial weekends on 5-6 and 12 December, full opening on 19 December.
Summer
Mont d'Arbois runs from 20 June to 6 September, Rochebrune and Petite Fontaine from 4 July (€11 one way, €20.30 return, −10% for families): bike park on Rochebrune and Mont d'Arbois, trails to Mont Joly (2,525 m, 12 km and 900 m of climbing from Mont d'Arbois) and the Aiguille Croche. The Mont d'Arbois golf course, 18 holes at 1,320 m, the oldest mountain golf course, green fees from €45 to €102. Lac de Javen, at the foot of the Petite Fontaine chairlift, with its bar-restaurant and fishing (day permit €20). Paragliding from Rochebrune (1,755 m) down to Praz-sur-Arly, €90 to €130 for a first tandem flight, from age 6. The altiport and its scenic flights: 10 minutes over the valley for €60, 40 minutes around Mont Blanc for €225 (€112.50 for under-12s).
Le Palais
The largest sports complex in the Alps, at the entrance to Megève on the Combloux side: indoor pool and 50 m Olympic outdoor pool, 675 m² spa and balneotherapy area, Olympic ice rink, 740 m² climbing wall, fitness, tennis and a media library. 11 minutes from the building by car (5.8 km). → Le Palais
