At a glance

Résidence L'Alpage is a new development of two large chalet-style buildings completed in 2024, 42 apartments in all, at La Cry, at the top of Combloux, where the Portes du Mont-Blanc ski area begins. Cross the road, fifty metres on foot, and click into your skis; the ski school meeting point is three minutes away, the Beauregard gondola five — and the village eight minutes by car.

This page describes the residence itself: the buildings, the access, the parking, the ski and bike rooms, the gym and its sauna, and what there is to do nearby. We rent out our apartments here; you will find them at the bottom of the page.

Where it is, exactly

The residence is not in the village, and that is deliberate: it is up at La Cry, where the slopes begin. The village, its shops and its Wednesday market are eight minutes away by car — or by the free ski bus, which stops at the La Cry car park, three minutes' walk away, during the winter season and in summer. Out of season, a car is essential.

It is the one compromise of the place, and we would rather say so clearly: you trade being close to the bakery for being close to the snow.

The lift, and where it takes you

It's the thing you notice on the second day, not the first: you never go back outside with your luggage. You park in the basement and take the lift, which stops at the ski room, the gym, then your landing. In the mountains, with children and wet gear, that is not a brochure detail.

In the ski room, each apartment has its own ski locker with a boot dryer — not a shared rack where you hunt for your poles in the morning. A second room, locked, is reserved for bikes: somewhere to leave a road bike or an electric mountain bike with complete peace of mind.

The gym and the sauna

The residence has a gym, with a sauna at the back. Treadmill, rowing machine, exercise bike, stepper, dumbbells, kettlebells, a bench — enough for a proper workout, not three moves in front of a mirror. You go down in your slippers, by lift.

It is the most underrated feature of the place: it currently appears in no listing in the area, yet it is exactly what you look for when you come to work for a week in January, or want to loosen up your legs after a day's skiing.

The setting, in every season

In winter, the footpath is cleared of snow down to the road and the surroundings are lit in the evening — you arrive at night, after six hours on the road, without searching for the door by the light of your phone.

In summer, the lawn slopes down to the forest. There are roe deer, and you really do see them: they cross at first light.

What to do nearby

The slopes are opposite, the natural swimming lake eleven minutes away, Megève thirteen minutes, Chamonix thirty-six minutes. We have gathered everything we know about the valley into some twenty pages: the ski area and lift passes, ski touring from the building, the lakes, the trails, mountain biking, the restaurants, and how to get here.

From meadow to first guests

In August 2021, La Cry was a meadow, a few fir trees and a building-site sign. We followed the construction season after season, photographing it every time we came: two large chalets built with care, with timber frames, wooden cladding and shingle roofs.

Our first guests arrived in summer 2024 at the lodge, and at Christmas 2024 at les cimes. Everything is still new, and we know what lies behind every wall.

Our two apartments

We rent two apartments in this residence, directly: Le lodge de l'alpage, 70 m² for six, and Les cimes de l'alpage, 130 m² for ten. Both apartments are in the same building, Le lodge de l'alpage directly below Les cimes de l'alpage. Rented together, they sleep sixteen people, one floor apart: ideal for a family reunion, and an option no booking platform knows how to present.
